Published Author, Award-Winning Business Journalist, Knight Journalism Fellow at MIT, Book Proposal Advisor + Editor, Team Member Since 2016 (And, a private client in the late 90’s!)

Richard L. Brandt is a celebrated business author with books translated into more than a dozen different languages.

He is known for his outstanding interviews, with Silicon Valley Royalty like Larry Ellison, Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs.

Richard Brandt began as a client of Shannon Seek’s, here at Seek Solutions, when he was the Editor of Upside Magazine in the mid-late 1990’s. Shannon helped him manage multiple editors, direct reports and his assistants. She also helped him navigate the many politics that go with having a board, investors, advertisers, readers to answer to; as well as organize major events and conferences.

A great team going back more than two decades, Richard is one of the first true “Living Legacy” clients Seek Solutions/Shannon ever had, working at the “Executive Level” with him (Deep Dives, Immersion work, Ontological Processing and Integration). Shortly after they stopped working together things changed at Upside, too. Richard was the heart and soul there, so when he moved on things changed.

Fast forward to 2016 when Richard decided to join the Seek Solutions’ Coaching team as an Writing Coach + Expert Editor for our multi-media driven clients.

At the beginning of his career in journalism, he spent 14 years as a science and technology correspondent at BusinessWeek.  During this time he became a Knight Journalism Fellow at MIT, falling in love with sustainability, ecological communities and conscious capitalism.

Later, in Silicon Valley, he was editor-in-chief of the national technology/business magazine Upside which thrived during his 6-year tenure.

Richard is a freelance contributor to MSNBC.com, Science, Time, Technology Review, Politico, just to name a few.

As an award-winning journalist Richard L. Brandt has received the following: National Magazine Award, Deadline Club Award, Washington Monthly Award, Atlantic Monthly Award, and several Computer Press Awards, including Best News Story, General Interest Publication.

His book The Google Guys: Inside the Brilliant Minds of Google Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin (Portfolio/Penguin) was listed as a “must-read” in an all-star review from Publisher’s Weekly only given to the top 10% in the field.  And, One Click: Jeff Bezos and the Rise of Amazon.com (Portfolio/Penguin) earned him 6-figures in royalties + advance.

As a Seek Solutions’ Coach, Richard L. Brandt helps business clients find their voice and convey their message across generations with ease and joy.

He studied mathematics and engineering at Harvey Mudd College and earned a B.A. in biology at University of California, Santa Barbara. Richard started as a client in 1997 while at Upside Magazine and joined the Seek Solutions’ Business Coaches + Wordsmiths Team in 2016. He loves to cook and lives with his wife and daughter in the Santa Cruz Mountains, near Silicon Valley.
