Super Achieving Solutions
by Shannon Seek, BS, CPCC

Below is an outline of some very positive traits of many high achievers. There are sometimes blind spots or "pitfalls," however, that come with too much of even the best things in life, as many of us know.

The side effects as well as solutions are noted here as well as simple guidelines to keep your positive traits polished.

1. Positive Traits: unlimited energy/stamina
Pitfalls: taking on too many obligations or saying "yes" to too much
Side Effects: feeling behind in work regardless of how many hours worked, burn-out
Solutions: saying "no," setting boundaries, channeling energy in a focused way

2. Positive Traits: perception of the big picture /vision
Pitfalls: taking in more information than necessary, distraction
Side Effects: overwhelm by people, things, ideas, difficulty in making decisions about things that do not "grab" attention
Solutions: make the mundane novel in some way, establish a clear method of operation

3. Positive Traits: able to hyper-focus/be driven/be committed
Pitfalls: having marathon work sessions, difficulty in stopping, starting or transitioning
Side Effects: forgetting personal needs, working harder not smarter, forgetting to think long-term
Solutions: prioritize activities, scheduling time for projects, scheduling breaks and vacations

4. Positive Traits: integrity, precision, accuracy
Pitfalls: perfectionism, difficulty in delegating, inflexibility, control issues
Side Effects: poor time management, inefficiency, lateness, messiness, procrastination, overcompensation, feels work is never good enough
Solutions: mastery of knowing when enough is enough, modeling the precise methods for others in order to delegate tasks, learning to be with and replicate success
